Between December 15th and March 15th the ice sheet can be up to 50cm thick.
The water of Lake Weissensee is of drinkable quality. When the sun shines, one can see up to 15 deep into the crystal clear water.
In the 11th century, the north and the south bank were connected by a bridge made of wood, which was replaced by a reinforced concrete bridge in 1967.
There is no street that passes along the shores of Lake Weissensee; as a result the natural environment remains untouched to this day.
146 km of hiking trails offer you the opportunity to explore the landscape conservation area. For a break you can take a ride on one of the numerous ships. At 8 different quays the cruise can be interrupted and you can continue by foot if you like.
Cruises are offered by Weissensee-Schifffahrt between April 20th and October 20th but the exact dates may vary according to seasonal demand. A reservation is required in advance.
Liner traffic operates daily between May 13th and October 7th.
